The Bahamas has been a big game fishing destination since Ernest Hemingway made Bimini famous in the 1930s. The deep waters of the Gulf Stream pass close to shore, bringing blue marlin, wahoo, tuna, and other prized species within easy reach.

Target Species
- Blue Marlin: The ultimate trophy fish. Peak season is May through August, with fish exceeding 500 pounds regularly caught.
- Wahoo: Lightning-fast and delicious. Abundant year-round, especially along drop-offs and wrecks.
- Mahi-Mahi (Dolphinfish): Beautiful, acrobatic, and excellent eating. Best from March through July.
- Yellowfin Tuna: Powerful fighters found along the Gulf Stream edge, particularly in spring and fall.
- White Marlin & Sailfish: Smaller billfish that provide spectacular aerial displays when hooked.
The Hemingway Connection
Ernest Hemingway spent much of the 1930s fishing the waters around Bimini, setting multiple world records and writing some of his most famous works. His favorite haunts included:
- The Compleat Angler: Hemingway's legendary bar in Alice Town (destroyed by fire in 2006, rebuilt as a tribute).
- Bimini Big Game Club: Historic marina where Hemingway docked his boat Pilar.
- Cat Cay: Private island where Hemingway fished with wealthy friends.
