Just 50 miles from Miami, Bimini feels like another world. These twin islands have lured adventurers, fishermen, and writers for generations with their legendary waters and laid-back charm.

Ernest Hemingway spent years here in the 1930s, fishing the Gulf Stream by day and holding court at the Compleat Angler by night. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote parts of his acceptance speech for the Nobel Peace Prize here. The islands have a magnetic pull that goes beyond their convenient location.

The Gulf Stream runs closer to Bimini than anywhere else in the Bahamas, creating one of the world's greatest fisheries. But there's mystery here too-the enigmatic Bimini Road underwater formation has sparked debates about Atlantis since its discovery in 1968. Whether you come for the fishing, the history, or the intrigue, Bimini delivers.

## Must-See Highlights

Bimini Waters

### Big Game Fishing

The Gulf Stream runs just offshore, bringing blue marlin, sailfish, wahoo, and tuna within easy reach. Hemingway called these the best fishing waters in the world.

North Bimini

### Bimini Road

Mysterious underwater rock formation that some believe to be the lost road to Atlantis. Snorkel over these perfectly aligned stones and decide for yourself.

South Bimini Mangroves

### Healing Hole

A natural freshwater spring bubbling up through the mangroves, long believed by locals to have healing properties. Accessible only by boat through narrow channels.

Alice Town

### Hemingway Haunts

Walk in the footsteps of Papa Hemingway, who wrote "Islands in the Stream" and "The Old Man and the Sea" while living here. Visit the Compleat Angler bar where he drank.

## Planning Your Charter

Distance from Miami 50 miles (1 hour)

Water Temperature 75-86°F (24-30°C)

Typical Charter Length 3-5 days

Main Hub Alice Town, North Bimini

### Navigation Notes

The crossing from Miami requires careful weather planning-the Gulf Stream can build steep, uncomfortable seas when north winds oppose the current. Most crossings depart Government Cut at dawn for arrival by mid-morning. Bimini's harbors are relatively deep but can be crowded during fishing tournaments. North Bimini has better facilities; South Bimini is quieter with beautiful beaches.

### What Makes Bimini Special

Bimini is the easiest international yacht charter you'll ever do. Leave Miami after breakfast, clear customs by lunch, and spend the afternoon snorkeling the Bimini Road. The proximity means you can add Bimini to almost any Florida itinerary as a true Bahamian experience without the longer passages required for other islands.
